I am a professor of first year writing, literature and business writing at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. My current research is a historiography of Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style. I examine the social, cultural and political networks that formed and were formed by its particular imagining of English language discourse. Traditional archival research is a passion that goes back to a childhood collection of nineteenth century periodicals. History is in things and old pages.
Other interests include digital pedagogy and critical literacies, both digital and analog, radical teaching for democracy and thinking about style in writing. Also–Holga photography and forest walks with stream crossings. All Holga and Hipstamatic images here are mine.
